HOW TO PLANT
Sow indoors at 20-23°C.
Seeds can also be sown outdoors when the soil remains in early summer.
Indoors and out, sow at a depth of 4 times the size of the seeds and expect germination in 15-21 days.
Plants will beat fruit in 50-80 days after sowing.
TIP: Reuse one of the seal-able bags and place over the jar to create moisture and help germinate. Once seeds start to grow you can take this off 🙂
WHERE TO PLACE
Place in a warm window with a light exposure. Avoid drafty windows or places where temperatures drop considerably at night. As the plants grow, rotate the pots to keep them from leaning in one direction, toward the light. If you are using grow lights, set a timer so that they are on for 14 hours a day. Place the lights a few inches above the seedlings, raising the lights as the plants grow. If the plants look leggy, move the lights closer. If you see white spots on the leaves, the lights are too close. Use scissors to thin crowded seedlings.
Note that once outgrowing from the Jar – Chilli plant would need to be moved to a larger planter in order to be able to grow more chillies.
WHEN TO WATER
Water lightly once or twice a day to keep the soil moist, but not soaking wet.
When outgrowing the jar, you can move outdoors or to a larger container when there are at least two sets of true leaves. Plant out 2-3 weeks after last frost. Spacing: Space seedlings 18-24 inches apart in rows 30-36 inches apart.
